What is Tidying Up Stopping You From Doing?

What is tidying up stopping you from doing? We waste so much time every week tidying to try and find things, tidying to try and find places to put things away, tidying before we can clean, tidying to make a room feel more presentable and cosy. The amount of time we are wasting on tidying is incredible. And this is time that we could spend on things that are more important to us, our bigger goals. EPISODE 30 –

It Doesn’t Have To Be Perfect

It’s 9 days until Christmas Eve. Partly exciting, partly terrifying. Why does it always manage to creep up on me so quickly, despite the best preparations? It got me thinking about the pressure we put on ourselves for everything to be perfect, so I thought that would be a great podcast topic at this time of year. The last couple of years, because of Covid, we didn’t have any visitors over Christmas, and I secretly loved it. I was of course sad not to get to see the people, but the rest of it I can live without. I didn’t have to clean the guest bedroom, or make exciting desserts, or worry if the table decorations looked amazing. I didn’t even have to worry about getting out of my pyjamas. It was so liberating, that I have decided to adopt a similar attitude this year. Have a listen to what I’ve got organized!

    What If Everything Sparks Joy?

I regularly find myself in the fortunate position of helping other people learn what it means for something to spark joy for them as they begin their tidying journey. But more often than not their first question is ‘but what if everything sparks joy?’ That’s often been their problem. They have thought everything does up until this point, and it’s a revelation to learn what it really means. This episode should start helping you understand what it means to you, with the help of quotes from some wonderful people who I have had the pleasure of meeting on my KonMari journey. When Life Throws You a Curve Ball

You know how life can throw you a curve ball? That’s been the case in our family this week. Sometimes, something has to give. Life is not perfect, and nor should it be. I don’t live in some picture-perfect Instagram life. In this episode I talk about how knowing what sparks joy for you is so important when things get hard, and how aiming for progress not perfection makes life so much easier. I hope you enjoy this somewhat shorter than usual episode.

    Clutter Free Christmas Gifts

How often have you politely accepted a gift, said thank you, and later put it in a drawer never to be seen again? Homes all over the world are cluttered with unwanted gifts, and as we become more aware of how important it is that we live more sustainably, it is important we re-think our gift giving. What are we teaching our children by giving them so many gifts just for the sake of them having something to unwrap on Christmas? Don’t Mention The ‘C’ Word

I am not a big fan of the ‘C’ word, or at least I don’t want to be hearing it until it’s at least December! That said, pre-preparation, starting in November, makes life so much easier, and allows for a calmer and more enjoyable Christmas (there I said it!). In this episode I will share with you my top tips and tricks for things you can already be doing to buy you more time, and make the whole event the wonderful and relaxing family time it can and should be. Whether your family choose to spend the whole day in their PJs, or whether you are in full party mode with extended family, the little (and I mean little) things you do now to organize yourself, can make all the difference. Organized for MS

This episode is special for a couple of reasons. Firstly I got to reconnect with my old school friend Jane Gould, who I have stayed in touch with over Facebook, but I have not actually seen for over 20 years, and secondly, because it gives me the chance to use my podcast to raise awareness of issues that we perhaps don’t usually give much thought to. Jane was diagnosed with MS over 20 years ago, and now in a wheelchair, she talks to me about the difficulties of navigating her home in a wheelchair, and the clever organizational solutions she has developed to make her life easier. We hope that this epiosde will raise awareness of MS, and help other people in Jane’s situation.

EPISODE 18 – Organizing in Special Needs Families

When you are a parent, every day can be unpredictable. Kids get ill, have accidents, don’t react to things as you are expecting them to. Suddenly all your plans are thrown out of the window. As a parent of a special needs child this is even more often the case. In this episode I share my personal experience, and how organization has saved me from the unpredictability, and helped me deal with things more calmly.

    EPISODE 17 – Decluttering As Self-Care

I am sure a lot of people hear me credit Marie Kondo’s book for saving me, and think I am wildly exaggerating, but it really was the case. Decluttering, organising, and creating systems in our home was the self-care I needed, and although I will happily admit to not being perfect on this front, it has made enough of a difference that life really does feel calm and easier. In this episode I look at 5 points that make decluttering a form of self-care.
    1. Stress reduction
    2. Improved lifestyle
    3. Better work/life balance
    4. Living more intentionally
    5. Improved relationships

    EPISODE 16 – Organized Relocation

In this episode I take a departure from traditional organizing topics, to talk to Gráinne McConnell about what it is like to relocate a family to a different country. As an expat myself, I know how difficult it can be, and Gráinne has worked in the corporate world, she has started her own business as a life coach, and she has relocated internationally three times, twice with small children. This episode is gold for anyone considering or struggling with relocation, or even just for some amazing advice on how to help kids deal with transitions, and how as a mum you can make new connections! There is something for everyone.

This episode is the first in a 4 part mini-series based on articles from the official KonMari website. There are quite a few myths flying around out there about the KonMari Method®, and one of them is that the outcome of applying the method is minimalistic. In this episode, based on an article called KonMari is not Minimalism, I will talk about why the applying the ideas created by Marie Kondo, does not mean that you will necessarily end up with a minimalistic home. We all have the same number of hours in a week. 168 to be exact. I hear so often from friends and clients, that they don’t have time to do x, y and z.
